I have been working in an office at home that I’m very grateful for, but it wasn’t working for me. I was in an old dining room converted to an office. It’s great if there are no kids around.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids, but they have to get in my face anytime they have a thought, which is constantly. That makes it difficult to get work done. Recently I started podcasting and having interviews over Zoom. I would sit on the couch in the basement and hide the exercise equipment in the background.
This kept happening more and more. Finally I moved some exercise equipment out and set up a temporary desk. At this point I had been going to the gym consistently, so the exercise equipment wasn’t being used much. I would go down to the basement, record a podcast, come back upstairs and go back to work.
Over time I spent more and more time at that temporary desk. It was a sanctuary where I could get things done. After talking it over with my wife, I then moved more exercise equipment out of the way and permanently moved my office to the basement.
I have even updated it since the picture above, but it is place where it is quiet, where I don’t have to leave to record a podcast, and makes it easy for me to stay focused. This cleared up my head and I am dialed in.
Soon I’ll be moving some more things out to have a fulfillment center for Hustle Energy‘s products right by my desk. For a long time, I wanted an office outside of the house, now I’m excited about what I have at my house.
